This coffee is as unique as the story behind it. The dry fragrance delivers notes of stone fruit and herbal tea, while the wet aroma introduces the sweetness of brown sugar and dried fruit. The flavor is bright and clean with an array of floral notes such as jasmine, bergamont, and rose hips. As the cup cools, subtle fruit notes of white grape and apricot appear. The acidity is medium-low intensity with rounded flavors of orange peel. The body is that of a black tea with medium intensity. We hope you enjoy this one-of-a-kind offering we have the honor of bringing to you. Grab a bag online or stop by the shop to try a cup.
The SL-09 varietal belongs to the Scott Laboratories series, originating from a single-plant selection program carried out between 1935-1939. These coffees tend to have intense floral notes, which led to this varietal being misidentified as Geisha for years. In the Inkawasi district of Cusco, Peru, farmers noticed the pronounced floral characteristics and, thus, the varietal was locally named "Inca Gesha". Fast-forward to today and the WCR genetic testing has confirmed that these plants were not Geisha or Bourbon, but SL-09. What makes Inkwasi's SL-09 so exceptional is the rare combination of a few growing conditions - volcanic soil, 2,000m+ elevation, and glacial snowmelt water washing process.
