Las Moritas was the first of many prosperous farm plots obtained by the Gómez family. Gifted as seeds to Don Higinio Gómez by his father, red and yellow Bourbon, Pacamara, Pache, and many more unique varietals were successfully grown.
This is the 100% Red Pacamara which is a rare coffee variety. We are very fortunate to have access to the Red Pacamara from Las Moritas. If you're buying this coffee, be sure to get a bag of the 100% Yellow Pacamara that is grown alongside the Red Pacamara at Las Moritas!
Since 2017, our relationship with Don Higinio and his family has grown and many of their harvests have been featured in our signature blends and single origin offerings. We buy the following coffees from Don Higinio and the community of coffee producers that he organizes. Cerro de Oro, Las Moritas Yellow Pacamara, Las Moritas Red Pacamara, and San Antonio. We use San Antonio for our Cream & Sugar Dark Roast and 60% of our Elevation Blend.
Sierra de Las Minas is the highest non-volcanic chain of mountains in Guatemala outside of the Huehuetenango Region. A microclimate of humid forest dominated by pine trees, along with the non-volcanic soil, gives character to the coffees produced by Don Higinio.
The Gómez family were among the first visionary farmers in the region to transition into coffee over forty years ago. Today, with the help of the Gómez family, many families are now successfully growing coffee.
